Meiyazhagan Movie Review

Ms. Nalini reviews a much talked about movie – Meiyazhagan.   Which is now on OTT.

Not a super hero, but a relatable human.  Not a Mr Perfect, but man with his follies and foibles.  Arvind Swamy, the protagonist of the movie is depicted in this mould.

Meiyazhagan takes us through the journey of a man – Arvind Swamy –  who is unwilling to face the misfortunes of his past, but life pulls him to confront them. He is transported to his native town to attend his cousin sister’s wedding, an event he cannot miss because of the affection he bears for her.  Karthi also attends the wedding, and is clearly waiting for Arvind’s arrival. But Arvind doesn’t recognize Karthi, and is unable to muster courage (or kill his pride?) and ask him who he is.

The women characters in the movie play pivotal roles, they show the various shades of love. Everyone – in their own ways – helps Arvind make peace with his past.

The unbidden love that Karthi showers upon him, the light hearted bromance that the two of them share, dialogues that are liberally laced with rustic humour – these make the movie a very compelling watch with the entire family.
