Lapataa Ladies – Netflix

Lapataa ladies (Netflix) is brilliant cinema. The story about accidental bride switch in rural India is embedded with grand screenplay and dialogue, real acting, excellent camera, delightful music and visionary direction. The jibes at patriarchy and unawareness are simple and effective without being didactic. See it to experience that dying art of storytelling that an Oscar award deserves.

“Laapata Ladies” introduces us to Phool Kumari and Jaya, two young women whose lives intersect in unexpected ways . Phool, a naive yet spirited bride, finds herself stranded at a remote railway station after a case of mistaken identity. Meanwhile, Jaya, a more educated and independent-minded bride, unwittingly ends up in the wrong village, setting off a chain of events that will change both women’s lives forever.

In a cinematic landscape dominated by larger-than-life heroes and grand spectacles, Kiran Rao’s “Laapata Ladies” stands out as a refreshing and poignant tale of ordinary women navigating through extraordinary circumstances. Set against the backdrop of a fictional town in rural India, the film takes viewers on a captivating journey filled with laughter, tears, and moments of profound introspection.

Directed by Kiran Rao.  The film has a very high rating  4.75 /5 and is a must see.
